Yoga Therapy for Brain Disorders

This is a 3-month program that meets once a week on Wednesday evenings at 6-9pm CT/ 7-10pm EST through June, and meets one weekend per month (April 22-24, May 20-22, and June 10-12)

This 100 hour Yoga Therapy certification is where yoga and neurology intersect. Learn to treat mood disorders such as depression and anxiety; degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Alzheimer’s, and MS; substance abuse, PTSD, and TBIs. Combining yoga therapy and trauma-sensitive education, with neurology and psychiatry this truly holistic training provides a full spectrum approach. Led in partnership with Neuro-Psychologist Dr. David Callahan, Addiction Specialist Dr. Kristen Anderson, and Trauma Specialist Elisha Fernandes Simpson, LMSW. 


Dr. David Callahan, Ph.D.

Dr. David Callahan received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Rochester in 1986. He is a former Co-director of Psychology Associates in Plymouth, Wareham and Sandwich, and was Chief of Psychology and Clinical Director of the Family Service Association of Greater Fall River Substance Abuse Clinic. He opened a private practice in Sandwich in 1995.

Dr. Callahan serves as a psychologist and consultant to St. Vincent's Services in Fall River and in 2017 moved his Cape office to Child and Family Services in Hyannis. He consults with multiple residential programs and state agencies.

Dr. Callahan specializes in the performance of neuropsychological evaluations of children, adolescents and adults.

His presentation “Brains Gone Wild” has been given to numerous agencies and organizations for several years.

Dr. Kristen E. Anderson,

PH.D., LCPD

Dr. Anderson received her Master's of Education in Counselling at Bridgewater State College and her Master's of Science and Ph.D. in Gerontology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. She has been counseling clients for over 20 years and maintains licensure in Illinois where she currently resides, as well as Massachusetts where she was born, raised, and plans to retire (someday!). 

She has enjoyed working with a diverse population ranging from students place in alternative school settings (K - 12 +) to clinic work creating and facilitating intensive outpatient substance abuse group curriculum. While completing her doctoral studies in Gerontology, she acquired a Yoga Teacher Certification (YTT-200), with the intent of focusing her practice on aspects of Aging and Wellness. Currently, she assists clients in improving all domains of functioning in order to best target healthy aging choices. Dr. Anderson currently maintains a private practice in Chicago where she offers individual and group counseling; she teaches yoga and older adult strength training in the community.

Elisha Fernandes Simpson, LMSWA, ERYT, YACEP

Having the opportunity to transform her own trauma through the practice of yoga, Elisha Fernandes Simpson truly believes in the healing power of trauma-conscious practices. Elisha is a Cape Verdean woman, licensed social worker, accomplished yoga instructor, and mindfulness trainer working at the intersection of trauma conscious yoga and social justice. 

Her personal yoga practice of over 20 years brings her the resilience she needs as a trauma survivor, and the inspiration and commitment to expand a sense of stability and radical love. She has used her own experience to provide children, adolescents and adults who have suffered traumatic experiences with interventions to help overcome their inability to cope in their everyday lives.
